Swiss Knowledge Hub vs. Microsoft Copilot Studio

Microsoft Copilot Studio (formerly Power Virtual Agents) is a low-code toolkit that lets organizations configure their own copilots and agents. Swiss Knowledge Hub, by contrast, is a finished RAG product with core-data hosting in Azure Switzerland North, BYOK, and industry-specific integrations. This comparison addresses the common "we'll just build it ourselves with Copilot Studio" position and shows when that makes sense and when a specialized platform gets you to the goal faster.

Feature comparison

Grouped by category. Rows marked with CH are highly relevant in the Swiss compliance context.

Side-by-side comparison of Swiss Knowledge Hub and Microsoft Copilot Studio across categories such as data residency, LLM flexibility, integrations, security, and pricing.
CriterionSwiss Knowledge HubMicrosoft Copilot Studio
Data Residency & Compliance
Swiss data center as defaultCH
Partially supported. Core data (PostgreSQL, vector store, storage, Service Bus) lives in Azure Switzerland North out of the box. Front-end CDN via Azure West Europe; Video Indexer depending on configuration.
Partially supported. Depends on the Dataverse / Power Platform environment; the Swiss region is configurable but not the default.
FADP-compliant with Swiss place of jurisdictionCH
Supported. Supported
Partially supported. Microsoft contracts are FADP-suitable, but the vendor and jurisdiction follow Microsoft's standard contract terms.
LLM Flexibility
Multiple LLM providers integrable
Supported. Nine providers (Azure OpenAI, Azure DeepSeek, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI-compatible custom endpoints) via BYOK. The customer brings the key; SKH documents recommended provider configurations.
Partially supported. Primarily Azure OpenAI models; other models are possible through custom connectors or AI Foundry, but with extra effort.
Integrations
Out-of-the-box connectors for SharePoint and OneDrive
Supported. Supported
Supported. Native via Microsoft Graph / Power Platform.
Google Drive as a source
Supported. Supported
Partially supported. Available via a Power Platform connector, not first-party for RAG scenarios.
Dalux & Zipro (Swiss construction / education)CH
Supported. First-party connectors.
Not supported. Would have to be built via custom connectors.
Production-ready OCR, chunking, and vector indexCH
Supported. The pipeline (OCR, chunking, embeddings, pgvector) is part of the product.
Partially supported. Knowledge Sources and Generative Answers are available; OCR depth and chunking strategy have to be orchestrated by the customer per source.
Security
Citations with chunk and page numberCH
Supported. Supported
Partially supported. Generative Answers show sources; chunk and page references depend on the configured knowledge source.
Per-query audit log including the chunks usedCH
Partially supported. Chronological per-tenant audit log (ActivityLog) including query events and referenced sources. An integrity hash chain or WORM signing is not standard.
Partially supported. Analytics and session logs are available; chunk-level detail depends on the configuration.
Pricing & Licensing
Transparent CHF price list
Supported. CHF 250 to CHF 1,050/month, publicly listed.
Partially supported. Message-based pricing (pay-as-you-go or tenant pack), with additional costs for messages, Dataverse capacity, and Power Platform licenses.
No prerequisite Dataverse / Power Platform licenses
Supported. Supported
Not supported. Production copilots typically require Dataverse and Power Platform capacity, depending on the scenario.
Deployment Model
Time to value (ready-made RAG UI)
Supported. Ready-made chat UI, admin panel, and ingestion from day one.
Partially supported. UI and logic are modeled in the Studio — faster than code, but still configuration work.
Whitelabel / own domain
Supported. Supported
Partially supported. Deployment on Teams, M365 Copilot, and websites; a custom brand domain is limited depending on the channel.
Support & Language
German-language Swiss support
Supported. Swiss-based support team, primarily German and English. UI currently DE + EN; RAG answers can be produced in additional languages via multilingual embeddings; further UI languages (FR/IT) on request.
Partially supported. International Microsoft support; language depends on the support contract.

Which tool fits when

Both products address different starting points. This recommendation is intentionally honest.

When Swiss Knowledge Hub fits

When you need a ready-made RAG product that delivers citable answers from day one — including core-data hosting in Azure Switzerland North, industry connectors, and BYOK, without having to orchestrate knowledge pipelines, chunking strategies, and the UI yourself.

When Microsoft Copilot Studio fits

When your IT wants to build its own agents with workflows, Dataverse logic, and deep Microsoft Graph integration in-house, you have Power Platform expertise on staff, and the solution must be very specifically tailored to internal Microsoft processes.

Frequent questions

01Is Copilot Studio a ready-made RAG platform like Swiss Knowledge Hub?
No. Copilot Studio is a builder kit for custom agents and copilots. SKH is a finished RAG product with an indexed knowledge base, chat UI, admin panel, and connectors from day one. Copilot Studio gives you more freedom in workflow design but requires implementation work.
02Where is data stored in Copilot Studio?
Data lives in the chosen Dataverse / Power Platform environment. A Swiss region is configurable but not the default. SKH stores core data (PostgreSQL, vector store, storage, Service Bus) in Azure Switzerland North by default; front-end delivery uses Azure West Europe.
03Can I plug my own LLMs into Copilot Studio?
Copilot Studio primarily uses Azure OpenAI models. Additional models are possible via Azure AI Foundry and custom connectors, with corresponding configuration effort. SKH offers BYOK out of the box for nine providers.
04How long does a productive implementation take?
SKH on the Starter or Business plan is usable self-service in under 10 minutes. Copilot Studio typically needs a project team (Power Platform expertise, prompt design, knowledge-source configuration) — the duration varies with scope.
05Is Copilot Studio cheaper than Swiss Knowledge Hub?
Copilot Studio bills per message or per tenant pack, with additional Dataverse and Power Platform costs and implementation effort depending on the scenario. SKH offers transparent flat CHF rates that include hosting, connectors, and updates.
